The Passover Memorial Grace & peace all. Let's take a thorough look @ what Passover is all about and what it means for those who know YAHSHUA to be the Messiah.
Open your KJV (King James Version) to
Exodus 12 which gives us the
ORIGIN of the Passover. PLEASE READ!!!
12:1
And Yahweh spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land
of Egypt saying,
12:2
This month shall be unto you the beginning of
months: it shall be the first month of the year
to you.
12:3
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel,
saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall
take to them every man a lamb, according to the
house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
12:4
And if the household be too little for the lamb,
let him and his neighbour next unto his house
take it according to the number of the souls;
every man according to his eating shall make your
count for the lamb.
12:5
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the
first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep,
or from the goats:
12:6
And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day
of the same month: and the whole assembly of the
congregation of Israel shall kill it in the
evening.
12:7
And they shall take of the blood, and strike it
on the two side posts and on the upper door post
of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
12:8
And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast
with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter
herbs they shall eat it.
12:9
Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water,
but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and
with the purtenance thereof.
12:10
And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the
morning; and that which remaineth of it until the
morning ye shall burn with fire.
12:11
And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded,
your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your
hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is
Yahweh's Passover.
12:12
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this
night, and will smite all the firstborn in the
land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against
all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I
am Yahweh.
12:13
And the blood shall be to you for a token upon
the houses where ye are: and when I see the
blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall
not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the
land of Egypt.
STOP!!!!! At THIS POINT.....nothing is spoken
about a future memorial concerning keeping this
event. The first 13 verses we just read was
SPECIFICALLY Yah telling Moses what they must do
@ THAT exact time in their deliverance from
EGYPT. NOW... let's keep reading.....
12:14
And this day shall be unto you for a MEMORIAL;
and ye shall KEEP it a feast to Yahweh throughout
your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an
ordinance FOR EVER.
12:15
Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even
the first day ye shall put away leaven out of
your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread
from the first day until the seventh day, that
soul shall be cut off from Israel.
12:16
And in the first day there shall be an holy
convocation, and in the seventh day there shall
be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work
shall be done in them, save that which every man
must eat, that only may be done of you.
12:17
And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened
bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought
your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore
shall ye observe this day in your generations by
an ordinance for ever.
12:18
In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the
month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread,
until the one and twentieth day of the month at
even.
LISTEN! "even" is SPECIFICALLY the time of the going down of the
sun. Reference..
2 Chronicles 18:34
And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed
himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the EVEN: and
about the time of the SUN GOING DOWN he died.
Leviticus 23:27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day
of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall
afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YAHWEH.
32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your
souls: in the ninth day of the month at EVEN, from EVEN unto EVEN,
shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
It is VERY clear that you begin the fast on the 9th day of the 7th
month @ EVEN, the going down of the sun.
Deuteronomy 16:6
BUT AT THE PLACE WHICH YAHWEH THY ELOHIM SHALL
CHOOSE TO PLACE HIS NAME in, THERE THOU SHALT
SACRIFICE THE PASSOVER AT EVEN, AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN,
at the season that thou camest forth.. So here, it is plain that "EVEN" is the going down of the sun! CONSIDER! The 15th day of Abib, according to Leviticus 23 (Look it up!) is the FIRST DAY of Unleavened Bread. Then why does it say that you begin to eat Unleavened Bread FROM the 14TH DAY @ EVEN (IT COULD NOT HAVE SAID, 14TH DAY @ EVENING BECAUSE THEN THE 14TH DAY would be the FIRST day of Unleavened Bread.
Let's continue...
Exodus 12:19
Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your
houses: for whosoever eateth that which is
leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from
the congregation of Israel, whether he be a
stranger, or born in the land.
12:20
Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your
habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
THIS IS IN A NUTSHELL HOW WE KEEP THE MEMORIAL
Y'ALL!!!! Let's mention what is NOT in this
passage!!!
1. BARLEY OR NO OTHER GRAIN IS MENTIONED IN THIS
MEMORIAL. No one can make any particular grain of
bread be mentioned here. ANY type of grain can be
made BREAD....BUT for it to be UNLEAVENED bread
it must have NO leavening agents. REAL SIMPLE. In
reading this we will not add NOR take away from
what's written here. Where as barley and other grains were
in the state of Abib, the unleavened bread is made from "old store."
Nothing new was eaten ESPECIALLY before the waving of the sheaf
offering which MANY TIMES (I'll expound on THAT @ another time) was
after the Passover observance.
2. Jerusalem or NO other place was mentioned here
as far as a place that this memorial IN THE WAY
it was described to be observed needed to be
held. AGAIN...let's not add nor take away! Let's
continue reading!!!!!
Exodus 12:21
Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel,
and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb
according to your families, and kill the
passover.
(Notice that in this 21st verse, Yah has ceased
to speak of the memorial and has returned to
speak SPECIFICALLY about Moses' time that night)
12:2
And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it
in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the
lintel and the two side posts with the blood that
is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at
the door of his house until the morning.
12:23
For Yahweh will pass through to smite the
Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the
lintel, and on the two side posts, Yahweh will
pass over the door, and will not suffer the
destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite
you.
----UH OH....WATCH THIS!!!!!!!-------
12:24
And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance
to thee and to thy sons for ever.
12:25
And it shall come to pass, WHEN YE BE COME TO THE
LAND WHICH YAHWEH GIVE YOU, according as he hath
promised, that ye shall keep this service.
12:26
And it shall come to pass, when your children
shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
12:27
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of
Yahweh's passover, who passed over the houses of
the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote
the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the
people bowed the head and worshipped.
12:28
And the children of Israel went away, and did as
Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did
they.
CONCERNING THE SACRIFICE ....WE WERE TO DO THIS
"FOREVER" in the land that Yah gave us. THERE IS A
DISTINCT DIFFERENCE HERE IN THE PASSOVER MEMORIAL
of Unleavened Bread which was not bounded by a
geographical location and the SACRIFICES which
were to be specifically done in the land!!!!!!
It is very important that we understand the
proper context of everything we read because some
things were speaking directly in reference to our
being a nation IN the land, and since we were obviously
observing the memorial of Passover by the
unleavened bread in the EGYPT (captivity), and
that we were to do it forever, this is quite a
bit different from the sacrifices which we are
going to read again as something to be done ONLY
in a specific place.
Deuteronomy 16:1
Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover
unto Yahweh thy Elohim: for in the month of Abib
Yahweh thy Elohim brought thee forth out of Egypt
by night.
16:2
Thou shalt therefore SACRIFICE THE PASSOVER unto
Yahweh thy Elohim, of the flock and the herd, IN
THE PLACE WHICH YAHWEH SHALL CHOOSE to place his
name there.
16:3
Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven
days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith,
even the bread of affliction; for thou camest
forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that
thou mayest remember the day when thou camest
forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of
thy life.
16:4
And there shall be no leavened bread seen with
thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall
there any thing of the flesh, which thou
sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all
night until the morning.
16:5
Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any
of thy gates, which Yahweh thy Elohim giveth
thee:
16:6
BUT AT THE PLACE WHICH YAHWEH THY ELOHIM SHALL
CHOOSE TO PLACE HIS NAME in, THERE THOU SHALT
SACRIFICE THE PASSOVER AT EVEN, AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN,
at the season that thou camest forth
out of Egypt.
----Is it clear here that the ordinance of the
SACRIFICING of the Passover... just as YAHSHUA IS
OUR PASSOVER,...IS OUR ATONEMENT... was
sacrificed in the place where Yahweh chose to
place his name there???---- The sacrifices are
separate from how we are to keep the Passover
MEMORIAL of Unleavened Bread forever. Let's keep
reading....
To give you a heads up, you are about to read
again the only place where we can eat of the
tithe sacrifices and offerings which were offered
through the Levitical priesthood.
Deuteronomy 12:5
But unto the place which Yahweh your Elohim shall
choose out of all your tribes to put his name
there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek,
and thither thou shalt come:
12:6
And thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings,
and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and heave
offerings of your hand, and your vows, and your
freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your
herds and of your flocks:
12:7
And there ye shall eat before Yahweh your Elohim,
and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand
unto, ye and your households, wherein Yahweh thy
Elohim hath blessed thee.
12:8
Ye shall not do after all the things that we do
here this day, every man whatsoever is right in
his own eyes.
12:9
For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the
inheritance, which Yahweh your Elohim giveth you.
12:10
But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land
which Yahweh your Elohim giveth you to inherit,
and when he giveth you rest from all your enemies
round about, so that ye dwell in safety;
12:11
Then there shall be a place which Yahweh your
Elohim shall choose to cause his name to dwell
there; thither shall ye bring all that I command
you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices,
your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand,
and all your choice vows which ye vow unto
Yahweh:
12:12
And ye shall rejoice before Yahweh your Elohim,
ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your
menservants, and your maidservants, and the
Levite that is within your gates; forasmuch as he
hath no part nor inheritance with you.
12:13
Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy
burnt offerings in every place that thou seest:
12:14
But in the place which Yahweh shall choose in one
of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt
offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I
command thee.
Again this was ONLY speaking of eating of the
offerings and sacrifices which were offeres by
the Levitical priesthood. Nothing reads that the
observance of the MEMORIAL of Passover was
LIMITED to "the place where Yah shall choose to
set his name there"
Joshua 5:10
And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal,
and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of
the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
5:11
And they did eat of the old corn of the land on
the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes,
and parched corn in the selfsame day.
5:12
And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had
eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had
the children of Israel manna any more; but they
did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that
year.
My point is that here Israel have not quite
gotten to Jerusalem but they are still keeping
the Passover MEMORIAL. Here you see corn is
mentioned. Barley or wheat is STILL not mentioned
here and even as the corn is MENTIONED...it was
not a requirement as the Unleavened bread and
BITTER herbs were.
John 4:20
Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye
say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men
ought to worship.
4:21
Yahshua saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the
hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this
mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the
Father.
4:22
Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we
worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true
worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit
and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to
worship him.
4:24
Elohim is a Spirit: and they that worship him
must worship him in spirit and in truth.
With Yahshua BEING THE PASSOVER, BEING THE
ATONEMENT, HAVING SHED HIS BLOOD, ...Jerusalem is
fulfilled in that!!! We do not need to be in
Jerusalem because we are NOT sacrificing a lamb
or any other animal. Yahshua's death suspended
the Levitical priesthood. HE IS our Passover, our
Atonement!
Luke 22:8
And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and
prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
22:9
And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we
prepare?
--- What were they doing??? Preparing the
Passsover!!!! Which Passover?? The Passover that
we keep today. Even though we KNOW that Yahshua
had to die @ the time that the Passover lambs
were being killed, he was showing the disciples
that HE was the PASSOVER lamb as he was to be
killed in Jerusalem and THIS IS HOW we are to
keep the MEMORIAL... the Unleavened Bread (bread
without sin, wickedness and malice represented
HIS BODY!!!)
Luke 22:14
And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the
twelve apostles with him.
22:15
And he said unto them, With desire I have desired
to EAT THIS PASSOVER with you before I suffer:
22:16
For I say unto you, I will not any more eat
thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of
Elohim.
22:17
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said,
Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
22:18
For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit
of the vine, until the kingdom of Elohim shall
come.
22:19
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it,
and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which
is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
--- Believe what you want but THIS was the
Passover Memorial that they were during on the
14TH DAY OF Abib even though, it was at the
BEGINNING of the day of Preparation. Again I
can't stress enough that the physical lamb as
well as our being in Jerusalem was about to be no
longer a consequence in keeping the Passover
MEMORIAL.
1 Corinthians 11:23
For I have received of the Lord that which also I
delivered unto you, That the Lord Yahshua the
same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
11:24
And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and
said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken
for you: this do in remembrance of me.
11:25
After the same manner also he took the cup, when
he had supped, saying, This cup is the new
testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye
drink it, in remembrance of me.
11:26
FOR AS OFTEN AS YE EAT THIS BREAD, AND DRINK THIS
CUP YE DO SHEW THE MASTER'S DEATH TIL HE COME!
For how long do ye MEMORIALIZE THE PASSOVER
LAMB??? The Torah had already told us how long.
Finally...
1 Corinthians 5:6
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a
little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
5:7
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may
be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even the
Messiah our PASSOVER is sacrificed for us:
5:8
Therefore LET US KEEP THE FEAST, not with old
leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and
wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of
sincerity and truth. |
